ORIGIN PROJECTS OF FARMER'S SNACK
The well-being of our customers and partners is our top priority. Farmer's Snack's origin projects help in African countries where farmers and their employees face major social challenges. Just as resource-conserving cultivation and harvesting are important to us, a corresponding social commitment to local employees as part of our origin projects is a matter of course.
What is an origin project? We define an origin project as a long-term partnership that we have entered into with a partner in the country of origin of our raw materials. In addition to specific delivery conditions for raw materials and products, this primarily includes a social commitment. We provide know-how for technical processes and employee training, are committed to the advancement of women and year-round, secure employment and help with issues relating to employee health and safety. In addition to social practices, we are also committed to the transfer of knowledge on environmental issues in order to sustainably improve local living conditions.
Since 2021, we have been committed to the preservation of Spanish almonds with our own cultivation area. For more than 100 years, special almond varieties have been growing on the Spanish sunny island, which are only found there and therefore have a unique taste. These traditional almond varieties differ visually from the new varieties in their different sizes - and in the special taste of the typical Spanish almond.
We harvest the almond varieties just as they have grown on the tree. The almond harvest on Mallorca is still largely manual work and is more expensive than in other growing regions. As a result, the number of almond trees on the island has steadily declined in recent decades. In addition to the taste, however, there is another good reason to continue traditional almond cultivation: Because the almond trees provide a unique natural spectacle on Mallorca with their almond blossom in January and February.
The West African country is one of the poorest in the world, with the majority of the population living from fruit and vegetable cultivation. That is why we want to improve production processes, impart know-how and train specialist staff with our work on the ground - for sustainable agriculture. Together with our long-standing local partner for mango and coconut chips in Burkina Faso, we create and maintain vital jobs in the long term, and the majority of the people employed there are women.
Taste the difference: organic natural mango, mango in strips, coconut chips bathed in coconut milk, mango and pineapple mix with coconut chips
Pineapples have been grown, produced and packaged exclusively for us in the Eastern Cape in South Africa for over 10 years. The nutrient-rich soil and perfect climate ensure an optimal pineapple harvest, but it is also the high degree of manual labor and traditional techniques and structures that make for the special taste.
Pure taste, fruity aroma and natural sweetness - taste the specialty of pineapple: natural pineapple in whole rings, mango pineapple mix with coconut chips or trail mix pina colada with pineapple and coconut chips.
