SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION

SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION

OUR CLAIM: REDUCE, OPTIMIZE AND RECYCLE

Packaging food in a way that does justice to our sustainable approach is part of our quality promise. After all, nut kernels and dried fruit are natural products that can currently only be optimally protected with plastic packaging.

On the way from our production facility to the supermarket, from the supermarket to your kitchen shelf, from the kitchen to the table: nuts and dried fruit must remain fresh and durable for a long time, be easy to transport and be hygienically protected. Packaging made of biodegradable plastic does not currently meet our requirements for this. Glass is also not suitable for our products.

For us, reducing, optimizing and recycling means that we look at the right format for each product and only use as much film as is absolutely necessary for production and storage. In this way, we also reduce the material - you will notice the difference to other packaging when you feel the packaging between your fingers. We also use films that are easy to recycle and are working on recyclable alternatives.

OUR TEST: PACKAGING MADE OF PAPER

By recycling waste paper, everyone can actively participate in the recycling process and thus contribute to reducing waste. Finding packaging that can be completely recycled in waste paper after use is not that easy! As a brand, we stand for top quality on the inside - so we also want the best quality on the outside of our packaging.

That's why we tested new paper packaging for our special almonds and Cucina Cashew for the first time in 2021. After use, the packaging could be disposed of in the waste paper garbage can for recycling. We had made sure that our existing machines at our Seevetal production site for paper packaging were working to conserve resources.

Unfortunately, the results of our market test were not satisfactory. We are currently working with a university research team to find a better packaging alternative.

Speaking of waste paper: our administration avoids unnecessary printouts as far as possible - each office collects paper that is no longer needed in its own waste paper basket for the recycling process. Paper from production naturally also goes into our waste paper containers for further recycling.

FARMER'S SNACK ONLINE STORE: CLIMATE- AND RESOURCE-SAVING WITH CLIMATE-NEUTRAL SHIPPING

We not only think about the route to us and our production, but also the next step - how do our products reach the consumer in the most climate-friendly way possible? We are also looking at our own website with online store and optimizing possible processes in the ordering and shipping process.

Since 2022, our hosting servers have been powered by 100% CO2-neutral natural electricity from hydropower plants, and the service provider is also certified as a climate-neutral company.

Our Farmer's Snack shipping boxes are made from FSC-Mix. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is committed to promoting the environmentally friendly, socially beneficial and economically viable management of forests. We do not use any unnecessary extras for shipping that our customers would later have to dispose of as waste.

Customers of our online store receive their parcels delivered climate-neutrally at no additional cost. Our shipping partner DPD has been actively committed to combating climate change since 2012 and ensures 100% climate-neutral parcel delivery.

2021-2022

Expansion of our organic products

In October 2021, we presented an even greater variety of organic products: organic dates, organic cranberries, organic cherries, organic plums and organic trail mix, and in 2022 we added organic cashew, organic walnut and organic nut mix with Brazil nut.

2022

"Pineapple mango mix with coconut chips" - the best from our origin projects

For years, we have been particularly committed to our origin projects in Burkina Faso and South Africa. The pineapple, mango and coconut chips that make up the fruity, exotic mix of our new product come from there. You can find out more about our long-standing local partnerships here.

2022

European almonds - naturally from Mallorca
With our latest origin project, we want to preserve traditional almond cultivation on Mallorca. This is because the traditional cultivation of the particularly aromatic almonds has declined sharply on the Spanish island in recent years. With the "Farmer's Snack Almonds", we are focusing on the special taste and the short transport routes within Europe.

Focus topic: Packaging

2020

Shipping cartons made from FSC mix

Wherever possible, we are switching to more environmentally friendly packaging. For example, our Farmer's Snack shipping boxes have been made from an FSC mix since 2020, and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is committed to promoting environmentally friendly, socially beneficial and economically viable forest management.

2020

Recycle "cup stars" the right way

With our Farmer's Snack cups, paper (for more stability) and plastic (ensures the necessary durability) can be easily separated from each other. The paper belongs in the waste paper garbage can, the plastic cup in the yellow bag.

2020

Packaging-free shopping in the flagship store

Do you want to do without packaging? No problem: at the Farmer's Snack flagship store in Hamburg's Colonnaden, you have been able to buy nuts and dried fruit without packaging since 2020. Our colleagues will be happy to explain how best to preserve freshness and taste.

2020

Film barometer

We have been optimizing and reducing the packaging material of our existing product packaging since 2019, and the film barometer on the front shows the percentage reduction in packaging material used for the same filling quantity.

September 2021

Our first paper packaging

We want to actively contribute to the recycling process and waste avoidance, which is why we tested new paper packaging for our special Mallorca Almonds and Cucina Cashew in stores for the first time. After use, the packaging could be disposed of in the waste paper garbage can for recycling. Unfortunately, the results of our market test were not satisfactory. We are currently working with a university research team to find a better packaging alternative.

2021

Highly recyclable films

For the responsible use of resources: our stand-up pouches and flat pouches are "highly recyclable" in 2021, with a recycled content of between 72% (flat pouches) and 84% (Doypack). The non-recyclable material consists of components such as the barrier layer, adhesive and printing ink. This packaging belongs in the yellow bag.

2022

Climate-friendly online shop

Customers of our online store receive their parcels delivered climate neutrally at no additional cost. Our shipping partner dpd has been actively committed to combating climate change since 2012 and ensures 100% climate-neutral parcel delivery. Our hosting service provider uses 100% carbon-neutral natural electricity from hydroelectric power plants to power its servers.

2022-2023

"Facelift" of our packaging

We are revamping the entire look of our packaging. In addition to the modern product presentation on the front, the back of the packaging now offers more information about our commitment to sustainability, the origin of our products and our climate-positive production site (from incoming raw materials to outgoing finished goods).
